Report a dog bite to the Police at 544-2129. The Dog Officer makes a log entry on the incident, and the Animal Inspector will issue a ten day quarantine on the dog that did the biting. This goes for both dog-on-human and dog-on-dog bites.
Quarantine means that the dog must not be allowed outside, even in a fenced-in yard, without an adult 18 years and older present. If the dog goes off the owner's property, it must be on a leash held by an adult.
At the end of 10 days, provided the dog is still alive and well, the dog is released from quarantine.
If a person seeks medical attention for a dog bite, it is mandatory that the pertinent information is forwarded to the Board of Health and the Animal Inspector. This information is confidential and not shared with anyone outside the involved parties.
