Recycling Center/Transfer Station

[ARCHIVED] First day of 2024 permits at the Recycling Center/Transfer Station

It’s almost permit time at the Town of Orange Recycling Center/Transfer Station. We will start selling the 2024 permits on Saturday July 1st 2023.
After years without it, the facility will again start accepting non Orange residents but not accepting non Orange commercial/landlord customers. We will now require you to bring in the vehicle’s registration and the provided application for all permits and the first time you come in after June 30th you will be required to purchase your new permit. For the first two weeks in July an attendant (when available) will provide the application to those without the 2024 permit on their windshield with a clipboard and pen and also assist you if necessary. After that time applications will have to be picked up in the office. The application has changed so please only use the new version.

The first day, everyone coming in will need to get their permit so all traffic will do the following: Come in as you normally would and head towards the back parking lot. Please stop right at the sign asking you to stop for permit, with your car door lining up with the door to the building. That way you can come right into the office in as short of a distance as possible. DO NOT exit your vehicle and walk to the office until it is your turn, doing so will only slow things down for everyone. Before coming in to the office make sure to have the application filled out, your vehicle’s registration and payment ready along with our clipboard and pen if they were supplied to you (we only accept cash or check and exact change is appreciated if possible).

After the first day of permits, all vehicles with a 2024 permit displayed will be allowed to proceed straight through as normal. Any vehicles that do not have a 2024 permit on their windshield will be directed to the left as soon as entering through the facility gates. You will then circle around following the cones with arrows until you reach a sign asking you to stop for your permit. Then you will exit your vehicle and follow the arrows leading you into the small bay door and then into the office. Following these directions will speed things up and reduce backups.
When you are given your permit/sticker you will also be given 3 pieces of paper. The front of the first page explains how to use the facility and facility rules. The back of the first page is a map of the facility, which also indicates items that you must see an attendant to dispose of. The front of the second page is facility information and the back of the second page is a price sheet. The third page is a very important and more detailed list of what can and cannot go in the household recycling. Please put this where your household can see it to help prevent *wishcycling. Even if you have been coming for years, there are many changes and it is your responsibility to review this information to continue to use the facility properly.

Thank you for taking the time to read this important information and please share it with others to help everyone be prepared so the facility can continue to run smoothly.

*Wishcycling is the act of tossing something in your recycling bin with the mere hopes that it is recyclable. Recycling is more complicated than that.
